چکیده

This paper suggests that the analysis of Schumpeterian competitionwithin the Nelson--Winter model should be complemented with evolutionary game theory. This model and its limitations for density-dependent Schumpeterian strategies are presented in terms of the equations of evolutionary dynamics. Formulated as evolutionary games, the set of strategies can easily be extended from innovators and imitators to routinists, complementors, and mixers. All strategies are presented in relation to a modified version of the Hawk-Dove Game. In this setting, the possibility of coexistence of several Schumpeterian strategies is proved. This is an example of Schumpeterian competition within evolutionary game theory. JEL codes: O12, -, Bridging the gap between Schumpeterian competition and evolutionary game theory Version: 2007-02-28, 18:46 This paper suggests that the relatively concrete analysis of Schumpeterian competition in terms of the Nelson–Winter model should be complemented with evolutionary game theory. To prepare for this complement, the Nelson–Winter model is presented in terms of the equations of evolutionary dynamics that are important within evolutionary game theory. Thereby it is demonstrated that the model as serious limitations with respect to the study of the density-dependent success of Schumpeterian strategies. Furthermore, the set of analysed strategies has been limited. When Schumpeterian competition is defined in terms of evolutionary games, the set of strategies can easily be extended from including only innovators and imitators to the additional coverage of routinists, complementors, and mixers. All strategies are presented in relation to a modified version of John Maynard Smith’s Hawk–Dove Game. In this setting, the possibility of coexistence of several of these Schumpeterian strategies is proved. This analysis is presented as an example of the way evolutionary game theory might complement the Nelson–Winter model.

Investigation of Game Between Cells in Occurrence of Genetic Mutations Using Evolutionary Game Theory

In this paper, two games that play a role in creating a cancer tumor and suppression are studied using evolutionary game theory and its different modes are analyzed. The first game is the competition between a cancer cell and a healthy cell to receive food through the blood. In the second game, the interaction between the two oncogenes Ras and Myc is examined for cellular deformation

A JOINT DUTY CYCLE SCHEDULING AND ENERGY AWARE ROUTING APPROACH BASED ON EVOLUTIONARY GAME FOR WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS

Network throughput and energy conservation are two conflicting important performance metrics for wireless sensor networks. Since these two objectives are in conflict with each other, it is difficult to achieve them simultaneously. In this paper, a joint duty cycle scheduling and energy aware routing approach is proposed based on evolutionary game theory which is called DREG. Making a trade-off ...

Analysis of the Evolutionary Game Theory in Agent-Based Computational Systems: OPEC Oil-Producing Countries

This study suggests a new method for analysing the behavioral economics issues in the framework of game theory. In this context, bounded rational agents interact with one another in a strategic manner. Therefore, conventional economic modeling techniques are unable to explaine this kind of interactions. In this regard, evolutionary game theory and agent-based modeling are known as the most suit...

Selection of energy source and evolutionary stable strategies for power plants under financial intervention of government

Currently, many socially responsible governments adopt economic incentives and deterrents to manage environmental impacts of electricity suppliers. Considering the Stackelberg leadership of the government, the government’s role in the competition of power plants in an electricity market is investigated. A one-population evolutionary game model of power plants is developed to study how their pro...

The development and evolution of any system–person, organization–nation depends on how the system succeeds to bridge the gap between what the system knows and what the system does (with the knowledge). We call this the gap between knowing and doing or the knowing-doing gap. If the system does not do what it knows, it will lose out in competition with other systems, its relative performance in...
